Welcome to English Language Arts Grade 1 Course!
Course Description:

This course is designed to help students read fables, folktalkes, identify the elements of stories, learn and spell words and categorize them, sequence ideas, and identify main ideas. In addition, students will understand sensory details, characterization, purpose, and point of view of authors. Students will also be able to identify main ideas and connections within texts. Students will understand the basic elements of phonemic awareness, syllables, digraphs, and suffixes. Writing narratives, opinion pieces, and expository texts are also emphasized in this course, along with the grammar aspects of nouns, pronouns, capitalization, adjectives, tenses, and end punctuation.

Course Description:

This course is designed to help students read fables, folktales, identify the elements of stories, learn and spell words and categorize them, sequence ideas, and identify main ideas. In addition, students will understand literary devices, characterization, purpose, and point of view of authors. Students will also be able to identify main ideas and connections within texts, along with understand the structure and feature of texts. Illustrative and pictorial texts are provided to understand the purpose behind using them. Writing narratives, opinion pieces, and expository texts are also emphasized in this course, along with the grammar aspects of collective and proper nouns, reflexive pronouns, capitalization, adjectives and adverbs, tenses, and end punctuation. Understanding root words, context clues, and figurative language to determine meanings of words are also emphasized in this course.

Understanding synonyms, context clues, and multi-syllable words to determine meaning of words are other important aspects of this course. Grammar aspects such as nouns, verbs, pronouns, and subject-verb agreement are emphasized in this course.

Course Description:

In this course, students read skillfully with meaning and purpose using appropriate comprehension and vocabulary strategies. Students read, discuss, reflect, and respond, using evidence from text, to a wide variety of literary genres and informational text. With respect to writing, students write for a range of purposes, including describing, telling a story, and explaining. Grammatical aspects such as writing error-free sentences, identifying run-ons and fragments, and more elaborate discussion of the rules of comma and punctuation are also discussed in this course. Understanding of literary devices like simile, metaphor, idioms, and personification help students write in a more interesting way.

Strategies to improve vocabulary such as understanding prefixes and suffixes, idioms, and use of transitions help students showcase their writing skills in different genres. Welcome to English I Course!
Course Description:

This freshman-year course is designed to help students develop grammar mechanics, reading, writing, and comprehension skills. Students will have the opportunity to learn across the curriculum as key vocabulary words in this course contain words relevant to Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Arts. In addition, students will read texts of various literary genres: poetry, novel, drama, and non-fiction. By this, the students will be able to analyze texts across genres. Emphasis will also be given to the research process, source collection, and the different types of writing: narrative, argumentative, and expository.

Welcome to English II Course!
Course Description:

The sophomore course, English II, reinforces the skills learned in English I and previous Language Arts courses. Students will also be able to make connections within texts, identify fallacies, and write narrative, argumentative, and expository essays. In addition, students will read texts of various literary genres: poetry, novel, drama, and non-fiction. English II contains the instructions and strategies required in writing research papers. This also includes instruction on proper style formatting following the Modern Language Association and Chicago Manual of Style.

Welcome to English III Course!
Course Description:

This junior-year English course reinforces the skills learned in English I, English II, and previous Language Arts courses. Students will be able to identify text structure and make inferences about how author's lives and historical events impact literature. This course also includes the instruction and strategies necessary for writing argumentative essays, writing research papers, properly citing sources, preparing oral presentations, and proper use of reference materials. Additionally, students will demonstrate their ability to use euphemisms, oxymorons, and other literary elements.

Welcome to English IV Course!
Course Description:

This is an advanced, senior-level course in English designed to provide students the special attention to the analysis of literature and learning different essay formats. In the analysis of literature, students will understand the recurrent themes prevalent in literature and multiple themes that lead to richness in a text. In addition, students will read and analyze the renown themes in US documents and understand how organizational strategies help understand texts better. In grammar and conventions, emphasis will be given on the use of modifiers, sentence structure, and how punctuation marks like parentheses help in clarity.

Course Description:

This course focuses on developing understanding of addition, subtraction, and strategies for addition and subtraction within 20, developing understanding of whole number relationships and place value, and grouping in tens and ones. In addition, students will also understand time, linear measurement, and measuring lengths. Emphasis will be placed on reasoning about attributes of, and composing and decomposing geometric shapes.

Course Description:

This course focuses on developing understanding of multiplication and division and strategies for mltiplication and division within 100. In addition, students will also develop understanding of fractions, unit fractions, structure of rectangular arrays and of area. Emphasis will be placed on describing and analyzing two-dimensional shapes.

Welcome to Mathematics 4 Course!
Course Description:

This course focuses on developing understanding and fluency with multi-digit multiplication, and developing understanding of dividing to find quotients involving multi-digit dividends. In addition, students will also develop an understanding of fraction equivalence, addition and subtraction of fractions with like denominators, and multiplication of fractions by whole numbers. Emphasis will be placed on analyzing and classifying geometric figures based on their properties: having parallel sides, perpendicular sides, particular angle measures, and symmetry.

Welcome to Mathematics 5 Course!
Course Description:

This course includes the study of developing fluency with addition and subtraction of fractions, and developing understanding of the multiplication of fractions and of division of fractions. In addition, students will also extend division to 2-digit divisors, integrate decimal fractions into the place value system, develop understanding of operations with decimals to hundredths, and develop fluency with whole number and decimal operations. Emphasis will be placed on developing understanding of volume.

Welcome to Mathematics 6 Course!
Course Description:

This course focuses on connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division and using concepts of ratio and rate to solve problems. In addition, students will also understand division of fractions and extending the notion of number to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers, writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations. Emphasis will be placed on developing understanding of statistical thinking.

Welcome to Mathematics 7 Course!
Course Description:

This course focuses on understanding of and applying proportional relationships, developing understanding of operations with rational numbers, and working with expressions and linear equations. In addition, students will also solve problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume. Emphasis will be placed on drawing inferences about populations based on samples.

Welcome to Mathematics 8 Course!
Course Description:

This course includes the study of formulating and reasonging about expressions and equations, including modeling in association in bivariate data with a linear equaiton, and solving linear equations and systems of linear equations. In addition, students will also grasp the concept of a function and using functions to describe quantitative relationships. Emphasis will be placed on analyzing two- and three-dimensional space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and conguence, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem.

Course Description:

Algebra I course includes the study of properties and operations of the real number system, evaluating rational algebraic expressions, solving and graphing first degree equations and inequalities, and translating word problems into equations. In addition, students will do operations with and factoring of polynomials, interpret and build functions and data, and solve simple quadratic equations.

Course Description:

Course Description:

Pre-Calculus course combines the study of trigonometry, elementary functions, analytical geometry, and math analysis as preparation for calculus. Students will dwelve in to the concepts of the complex number system and the vector and matrix quantities. In addition, students will interpret and build functions, understand trigonometric functions, and interpret catergorical and quantitative data. Students will also make inferences and draw conclusions and use probability to make decisions.

Course Description:

Geometry course emphasizes an abstract, formal approach to the study of geometry, typically including the properties of plane and solid figures and deductive methods of reasoning and use of logic. The geometry course, as an axiomatic system, includes the study of postulates, theorems, and formal proofs, constructions, concepts of congruence, similarity, parallelism, perpendicularity, and proportion, and rules of angle measurement in triangles. Emphasis will be placed on area and perimeter, volume and surface area, and probabilities.

Course Description:

This course engages students in raising questions about the world around them. Students begin to understand why things move and note the various patterns in their movement (e.g., the sun and the moon appear and disappear in the sky). In addition, students use their senses (sight, smell, taste, touch, and sound) to group objects and to make observations about the physical world by describing, comparing, and sorting items according to physical attributes (i.e. number, shape, texture, size, weight, color, and motion). Course Description:

Students identify and analyze weather patterns, understand precipitation and the usage of weather tools, identify seasons, understand the sources of light and sound, and communicate using light and sound. Course Description:

In this course, students push, pull, and manipulate things to see what will happen. They study the changing patterns of the moon and the sun and its effects on Earth. Students carry on simple investigations to understand that no matter how parts of an object are assembled, their overall weight is the same as the total weight of the parts. They understand that heating and cooling cause changes in the properties of the materials. They observe changes caused by weather, plants, animals, and humans to the environment and study the life cycle of different organisms.

Welcome to Biology Course!
Course Description:

This course is designed to provide students the necessary skills to be proficient in biology by focusing on the identification of patterns, processes, and relationships of living organisms. These standards include more abstract concepts such as the interdependence of organisms, the relationship of matter, energy, and organization in living systems, the behavior of organisms, and biological evolution. Students investigate biological concepts through experiences in laboratories and field work using the process of inquiry. Students also start developing an understanding of the cellular structure and the role these structures play in living cells. The students develop a fundamental understanding of the role of bio-macromolecules, their structure and function as related to life processes. The students then analyze how genetic information is passed to their offspring and how these mechanisms lead to variability and hence diversity of species. They use cladograms and phylogenetic trees to determine relationships among major groups of organisms. Biology students are able to recognize the central role the theory of evolution plays in explaining how the diversity observed within species has led to the diversity of life across species through a process of descent with adaptive modification.

Welcome to Chemistry Course!
Course Description:

This course includes more abstract concepts such as the structure of atoms, structure and properties of matter, the conservation and interaction of energy and matter, and the use of Kinetic Molecular Theory to model atomic and molecular motion in chemical and physical processes. Students investigate chemistry concepts through experiences in laboratories and field work using the process of inquiry. Chemistry students use the periodic table to help with the identification of elements with particular properties, recognize patterns that lead to explain chemical reactivity and bond formation. They use the IUPAC nomenclature in order to predict chemical names for ionic (binary and ternary), acidic, and inorganic covalent compounds, and conduct experiments to manipulate factors that affect chemical reactions.

Welcome to Social Studies Grade 1 Course!
Course Description:

In this course, students continue their introduction to United States history through the study of selected historical figures and the important contributions each historical person made. In the geography strand, students learn about where these historical people lived and explore important basic geographic concepts. The civics strand provides a study of the positive character traits exhibited by these important historical figures. Course Description:

The PRAXIS Math course focuses on the concepts of pre-algebra, elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, coordinate geometry, plane geometry, and statistics. Understanding fractions, radicals, factors, ratios and proportions, rational and irrational numbers, algebraic expressions, equations, and functions help students to solve algebraic problems skillfully. Geometric concepts like construction, transformations, circle, and angle relationships help the students be familiar with the different shapes and their areas, volumes, and surface areas. Course Description:

The PRAXIS Reading course focuses on the reading aspects of the English language. Students understand key ideas and details by making inference and drawing conclusions, identifying main idea, and summarizing. In addition, students learn the craft, structure, and language skills by knowing the proper style, tone, and language to use, understanding the differences among the various points of view, using transitions, and understanding the meaning of words in context. In addition students integrate knowledge and ideas by analyzing arguments, making connections in texts, comparing and contrasting various genres, and knowing the differences between inductive and deductive reasoning.

This course is an introduction to basic grammar principles and vocabulary words and expressions. Students acquire elementary skills in the areas speaking, listening, reading, and writing in the French language. Culture awareness of French-speaking countries is also a core part of this course.
